Bestball Entries to Close Today

The deadline for the 2008 WSGA State Bestball (Four-Ball) Championship closes TODAY May 9th at 5:00 pm CST.  The 2008 championship will be held at Hidden Glen at Bentdale Farms and Washington County GC with the Match Play portion contested at Hidden Glen.  Entries are open to those two-man amateur teams age 18 and over with a combined index of 12.0  To register for either event, click on the WSGA Schedule button.

ALL USGA Applications Available

All USGA Championship/Qualifying entries are availbale online.  Wisconsin will play host to two of the national championships in 2008.  Erin Hills GC will host the Women's APL Championship AND qualifying on May 25th.  Entries will close for this event on May 7th at 5:00 pm EST.  Milwaukee Country Club and Brown Deer Park GC will host the 2008 USGA Mid-Amateur Championship on September 6-11.  TWO qualifiers will be held in Wisconsin on August 13th at Geneva National GC and on August 15th at Tuckaway CC.  Entries for the Championship and Qualifying will close at 5:00 pm EST on July 16.  The USGA Website has forms for downloading or online applications.  Local qualifying is a first-come first-serve basis, no priority is given for residence.  Absolutely no late entries will be accepted.

The United States Golf Association (USGA), in conjunction with the R&A in St. Andrews, Scotland, writes, interprets and maintains the Rules of Golf, to guard both the tradition and integrity of the game.  The USGA website provides the following information on the Rules of Golf changes, effective January 1, 2008.

Jerry Kelly became the 76th member of the Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame on Thursday, December 13th at Maple Bluff Country Club.  Past Hall of Fame inductees, including, Andy North, Monroe Miller, Dick Sucher, Katie Falk, Gene Haas and David Cookson, along with family, friends, and Maple Bluff members, were on hand to see Jerry join Steve Stricker as the 2007 class.  A slideshow has been put together showcasing the evening.

Steve Stricker and others were honored at Cherokee CC.  Travis Becker, Golf Professional at Cherokee, presented awards to John Boles, Stu Grendahl and Larry Tiziani.  The Hall of Fame Committee and 130 others were in attendance to see Stricker become the 75th inductee into the Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame. A slideshow is available for all to enjoy. We appreciate the comments and suggestions that we have received regarding the recent preview release of the WSGA Network web-site. To best serve you, we have reverted back to the old login until all the requested changes have been made to the new system.

For the time being, you will be able to login using your WSGA Number and Password (without adding WSGA in front of your number as you did with the new release).

Marquette University Golf - Big East Champions

Congratulations to the Marquette University golf team for capturing it's very first Big East title and automatically qualifying for the NCAA Regional Tournament.  Marquette had a 11-stroke lead going into the final round and held on by two strokes over Louisville.  The Golden Eagles were led by Big East Individual Champion, Ted Gray, who claimed his first title for Marquette.  Gray shot 68-68-75 = 211 to win by five.  Junior Mike Van Sickle (219) tied for fourth, senior Michael Bielawski (220) tied for seventh, freshman Kelly Kretz (230) tied for 33rd and junior Dustin Schwab (233) tied for 42nd.  The Golden Eagles will return to competition when they play in the NCAA Central Regional tournament on May 15-17.  Complete results can be found here.
