HANDICAPPING
1. Can I post a score over the Internet?
Yes. Effective January 1, 2002, Section 5-2a of the USGA Handicap System Manual was changed to include the Internet as an occasional method for recording scores for handicapping. While the preferred method is still to post scores immediately after each round, Wisconsin golfers will now be able to post an occasional score from their home computer back to their golf club.
The individual golf club is the determining factor as to whether they will allow their members to post via the Internet.
2. Can I post scores outside of Wisconsin?
The Wisconsin State Golf Association participates in the International Golf Network (IGN). That means that WSGA Associate Members can post their scores at any participating club, worldwide, that belongs to the IGN and these scores will be routed back to your home course/club.
For more details, visit www.ign.net.
3. Should I post an away score at that course or wait to get back to my home course/club?
The WSGA strongly recommends that all players post their scores where they play to ensure the most current and accurate Handicap Index. Scores can be posted at any course/club that has a computer entry system. Scores made at courses utilizing the paper handicap system MUST be posted at your home course/club or on the Internet.
4. When can I post a score in Wisconsin?
The active golf season in Wisconsin is from April 1st to October 31st. Rounds played in Wisconsin from November 1st to March 31st are not acceptable for handicap purposes.
Golf rounds played in areas that are within their active system (i.e. warm weather states) should be posted. This can be done through the IGN (see above), via the Internet or can be entered at your home course/club in April.
5. What is ESC?
Equitable Stroke Control or ESC is defined in either Section 4-3 of the USGA Handicap Manual or under Handicapping on the WSGA Website.
